How salmon spawn in Ireland's rivers
Просмотров 2,7 тыс.5 месяцев назад
Atlantic salmon spawn in Irish rivers late in the year, from November to January. Choosing clean gravel areas of the river, female salmon (hen fish) lay their eggs in a depression in the gravel, which they create with sweeping movements of their tail to dislodge stones. This also dislodges freshwater invertebrates, such as caddis and mayfly nymphs, which the resident minnows can be seen feeding...

From smolt to sea - IFI footage shows Atlantic salmon preparing for the next journey
Просмотров 579Год назад
In late spring, April and May, young salmon that have grown large enough turn silver and start to migrate downstream to the sea. They are now known as smolts. On their migration route, they shoal together for protection from predators, and feed voraciously to build up energy reserves for their long journey. Their bodies are changing, getting ready to adapt to salt water. Once they reach the sea...

It's nothing to do with the rivers..it's what's happening out at sea with the trawlers and predators.who are yous comeing up with the numbers returning.its all guess work.yous a a joke of a protection agency.salmon counters not working and inaccurate.seals in the rivers hoovering up everything they see.go back to the drawing boarding and start the protection out at the estuary.stop the trawlers and do something about the cormarents
Me too
Hi if you happen to this, I’m going to lough Earne for a fishing trip soon. I was wondering if you can suggest an area. Upper or lower lough, we can launch from castle Archdale or Carry bridge and trying to decide where is best. Any suggestions for pike or trout. Thanks
A lovely video. Look how marked the fish are after their journey.
Brilliant footage. We have such a wonderful resource in Lough Corrib.
All the best on your retirement Martin!
Ifi are fucking dreaming fix annacotty weir bulb eu life bollocks
This plant is harmless to vampires and other nocturnal horrors. When out hunting Dracula and his minions for God's sake don't mistakenly take this plant instead of your trusted clove of Garlic, thank me later.
Superb filming and very informative. This should enhance the whole biosphere of the river.
Was this not a disaster
Great Video , can you fly fish for pike from the bank of the river or lake ? How much would that set up cost you !
Failed
Fix annCotty weir
Pity ye ve wrecked the river
What a load of bullshit.. first ye spelt it wrong. It's Mulcair not mulkear. Ye have destroyed the river destroyed the good Wears. No eels use them so called passes. Ye spray poison to kill the hoghweed that does nothing to stop it spreading. Destroyed the ballyclough wear and dropped the water level making it harder for salmon to survive in low water. Ye clowns.
Can.t see the plastic matting helping salmon upstream
promosm
Sort the rivers out ye bunch of bus conductors. Selling and checking tickets. Oh, and making videos by the look of it.
Spot on sir well said
What’s the name of the fucking app
Hi there - the app is called IMREC and you can find out more about the app and how to download it at www.fisheriesireland.ie/IMREC
bait fishing for sea-trout without circle hooks should be illegal
Too far from the camera/microphone- can’t hear commentary
Science, Japanese knotweed is the most concentrated source of resveratol we've ever found! East Asians, it's a perennial vegetable and good medicine. Westerners, it's evil the only good knotweed is dead knotweed (mindless shrieking). If only there was some way we could learn from other cultures.
Fix annacotty weir
Lovely to see the work been done, by the government, and then ruin it by issuing farm salmon licences. Smolts haven't a chance
This is very informative but I find you can get away with an 8wt in some places that don't really have that big of fish but as bodo said the place that you were at a 9wt would be great
Kill them
Spotted an otter passed away on the beach I northern Ireland co.down
Fix the mulcair stop opw wreckers fix weir at annacotty
Fix weir in mulcair , ifi criminals and yer pals office of public works ye are destroying the mulcair the cheek of ye to ask any irish man has he a licence when the ifi have destroyed our river ,
Did fish get over weir
They can't do that at Ardnacrusha can they !!!! 🙄
Great video there demonstrating how our salmon are unable to pass weirs 😒
Some good done ,the water work with farmers is good but theirs no access for anglers !
I'm just bored so I searched this up
somebody should inform the idiots in the west that pike are essential for a healthy fishery
Hi there, Just have to say thank you very much for showing this in video form, much appreciated. Just wonder how many people or animals left to do their thing have been hurt, blinded or killed by this? Educators, teachers need to present to their students, children etc., Country visitors need to learn of this also management of open spaces and in particular it seems so do hoteliers, You take care when doing your videos. Regards, Maureen from England
Opw just dug these creatures out in their hundreds destroyed their dens the opw should be disbanded and never be allowed near mulcair again environmental destruction is what their good at
Where did they fix the number show me
This did fuk all for salmon
Good man tony
What a scenery, beautifull spots. Didn't even know there is places like that in Ireland. Great film
The biggest pathogens are the Inland Fishers formerly Moy Fisheries, they single handedly destroyed the river moy...Scumbags .
Why are the opw still wrecking our river,?
The opw wrecked this river the esb and the ifi my god the opw fixing rivers go and look what they do!
Get some nice sea bass with that
that way that the line is attached to the hook will slip and you will loose the fish
Definitely,I believe fishing is mindfulness. Best way to clear your mind until you hook into a sizeable fish , then the adrenaline rush begins
Mulcair river if given this attention would have 20 times the eriffs numbers the ifi are chancers
So a nice delicate setup then... 9wt, wire trace, 25lb nylon :-)
This project failed
@Eamonn Noonan they wasted money did nothing opw have ruined my river the weir at annacoty was not by passed for lamprey it failed and salmon find it very hard to get over it
Great work helping the otters! Special animal!
